I am offering for sale a fine example of a Whippy side saddle from the famous London saddlers and cap makers, Whippy, Steggall & Co established in the 19th century. I believe the saddle was hand crafted around 1910. I bought the saddle in 1984 from Dawn Dodd-Noble,. Sandon Saddlery Company in Hertfordshire. I used the saddle lightly on an Anglo-Arab gelding 15.1. Narrow fitting saddle.Adjustable leaping head. 18" from cutback head to cantle. 13 1/2 " across widest part of seat. 8" D to D . The leather, stitching and doeskin seat of this saddle are in very good condition as can be seen from the photographs. The original makers label is still intact. Photos of the underside lining reveal some wear, which is to be expected of a saddle of this vintage. The price of the saddle is to include:-

| Historic Leather seated hunting side saddle made by Gordon & Company , saddlers to Queen Victoria and the Royal family .The nameplate is still intact ,It is good condition according to my saddle fitter.It has a leather seat and there is slight tear at the edge of the seat but it is useable .The under side of the saddle is wool.The seat length is 21" the width is 13- 13.5 inches the gullet width is 5- 5.5 " .It is complete with balancing strap and stirrup leather and Iron .It was made for my late husband's grandmother approx 1880's . photos available on request. |
