The Side Saddle Association & Disabled Riders |
The Side Saddle Association (SSA) welcomes disabled riders. Many of our instructors
are happy to help disabled people achieve their dreams of riding side saddle, and are willing to go and help at
RDA sessions to teach and educate the RDA Instructors in the correct fitting of side
saddles and the basic techniques of side saddle riding. These instructors are
listed in our Members' Handbook.

For many people riding side saddle provides a more comfortable means of riding and can offer some people who are unable to ride astride through disability, or other medical reasons, the chance to enjoy riding a horse.
We are proud to have members within the SSA who are also active competitors at RDA competitions and within the Special Olympic system.
The SSA is happy to have supported the National Para Convention at Moulton College (2012) and the Special Olympics at Hartpury College (2013) by means of an educational display of side saddle riding. Members of the Side Saddle Association (including members with a disability) have previously taken part in a side saddle quadrille at the RDA National Championships at Hartpury.
