The Side Saddle Association was formed in 1974.
It aims to encourage and promote the elegant art of riding side saddle.
|
- Part of a unique equestrian discipline with likeminded, welcoming enthusiasts keen to share their experience and offer help and support to each other
- Your membership helps the Side Saddle Association promote and protect the skill, sport and education of riding side saddle and continue to develop clear systems and standards for riding, welfare, education, instructing and judging and therefore maintain the highest levels of all aspects related to side saddle.
- Area based local help, advice and encouragement is readily available; as well as access to well organised and insured regional events and activities organised by Area Committees including clinics to assist you in your side saddle journey and develop your skills.
- Public Liability Insurance cover for all activities organized by the Association for riders and helpers (however, please note riding Members must hold their own third-party liability insurance for themselves and their horses/ponies).
- Eligibility to compete at the National Side Saddle Show and in the Side Saddle Equitation Championships and for National Show Points Trophies (Life, Full & Junior Members only)
- Special rosettes in SSA Affiliated classes plus Equitation Championship Qualifier Points Rosettes (Life, Full & Junior Members only)
- Sponsored classes specifically to be ridden side saddle along with classes in conjunction with other Societies.
- Members' Handbook with Competition Rules, Newsletters, National Show Schedule and regularly updated online Shows & Fixtures list.
- List of approved Instructors and facilities offered.
- Special Classes for Junior Members including lead rein.
- Facilities to help Members wishing to buy and sell side saddle equipment (special rates for Members).
- Grade Tests and Instructor Examinations.
- Probationary Judge Scheme for those who would like to progress to be a Judge
- Performance Points Awards Scheme (Rules, etc. available on request).
- Reciprocal Contacts for Overseas Side Saddle Groups.
- List of Specialist Side Saddle Saddlers
- Online Equitation Competitions in winter months
- Arena Eventing Challenge
- Online question & answer sessions and seminars
- Access to the 'Members Only' section of the SSA website which includes hints and tips on turnout and preparing for competitions
- Facebook business and group pages
- Annual accounts and voting rights at the SSA AGM (not Junior members) as well as Area AGM

The country is divided into Areas: Members may elect to be
listed in an Area other than that in which they reside.
Areas each have a Committee and a Chairman
who organise Shows,
Instructional Courses, Social Events and Grade Tests etc.

ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION RATES/ MEMBERSHIP TYPES

Subscriptions are due on 1st January annually or on joining.
A registration fee of £5.00 is payable on joining, or on renewing after 31st March.
|
There are a number of categories of membership and applications may be made online or via a postal application form accompanied by a cheque.
Membership rates and options are detailed in full on the Membership Application Form.
The categories of membership are as follows.
Please note all Junior memberships have to be linked to a responsible Adult/ Adult family member who holds Life, Full or Associate membership.

£33 Associate membership enables you to be part of and stay connected to side saddle activities. An Associate Member is one who takes part in general Area riding activities but does not compete in SSA Affiliated classes and/or is a side saddle supporter who in addition may choose to take on helper and admin roles to support activities within their Area and the wider Association and be part of behind-the-scenes experiences. |

Adult families of a lead Full member (using electronic correspondence and receiving one Handbook per household only) can be added where family members are resident at the same address:

A Junior Member is eligible to take part in all riding activities and SSA Affiliated competitions and receive SSA special rosettes and participate in all other activities. Junior membership is combined with a linked responsible adult/ adult family member, applications will not be accepted solely for a Junior Member as this is not a stand-alone category (a Junior is aged under 18 on 1st January of current year). One Handbook and one set of correspondence will be sent to each linked Junior package, more than one Junior can be in a single package and each adult and Junior will be issued with their own unique membership number. A choice can be made between Royal Mail and online correspondence (see below).

50th ANNIVERSARY MEMORABILIA |
Thinking of what to buy for Christmas presents: There are a limited number of anniversary mugs, cushion covers, pens and poems still available and orders remain open for you to purchase merchandise to celebrate the Side Saddle Association's 50th Anniversary. Postage rates are available on application from the Hon. General Secretary, however ,the SSA cannot be held responsible for delivery to final destination nor guarantee mugs will arrive intact.
