Annual General Meeting
One of the highlights of the Association's calendar is the Annual General Meeting. Since 1975 I have attended every one and if my memory serves me right, the 1975 one was held at Miss Sylvia Stanier's home in Northamptonshire, where after the Meeting she gave demonstrations of long reining and liberty work with her stallions. Over the years the venue of the AGM has moved around the country and the Association has tried to provide entertainment after the AGM. Many will remember the hotly contested Pas Seul and Pas de Deux competitions which were held at Stoneleigh in the days when there was a permanent indoor school there.
Some people said that with the introduction of the Postal Vote for the Officers, attendance at the AGM would drop. This has not proved the case, as in 2012 - the first time postal voting was used, 102 attended (one less than the previous year), and this year 100 attended. The record attendance was in 1999, the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the Association, when 155 attended the AGM held at Saddlers' Hall by kind invitation of the Master and Wardens.
Over the past seven years we have been privileged to hold our AGM at Hogarths Hotel by kind invitation of Helena Hogarth, a long standing Member. The elegantly served lunch, held in the hotel overlooking grounds resplendent with daffodils and other spring flowers, is a far cry from the "Bring and Buy" lunches held at Stoneleigh some 20 years ago!
